Platform and custody fees
平台及託管費用
A platform fee is what a broker charges for using its trading platform or account, and a custody fee is what it charges for holding your securities. Neither is charged per trade; they are billed monthly, quarterly or yearly, some as a percentage of the value held and some as a fixed sum. Some brokers waive them when a condition is met, for example a trade in the month or holdings above a set value.
Example
Suppose the platform fee is HK$100 a month and is waived in any month with at least one trade.
- Platform fee
- HK$100 a month
- Month with a trade
- Waived
- Month without a trade
- HK$100
- A year with no trades
- HK$1,200
An account that never trades pays HK$1,200 a year.
