Credit limit
信用額
A credit limit is the most the card issuer lets you owe on the card, counting billed and unbilled spending, instalments and fees. The issuer sets it from your income and credit record, and may change it later. A purchase that goes over the available amount can be declined, or charged under the card terms.
Example
Suppose the credit limit is HK$50,000.
- Credit limit
- HK$50,000
- Billed balance
- HK$30,000
- Unbilled spending
- HK$12,000
- Available
- HK$8,000
A further HK$10,000 purchase is HK$2,000 over what is available and may be declined.
