Minimum balance and maintenance fee
最低結餘與綜合費用
A minimum balance is the average or month-end balance an account asks you to keep, and the way it is measured differs by account. If the balance falls below it, the bank may charge a maintenance fee, which is a monthly account fee. Some accounts waive the fee when another condition is met, such as a regular salary credit or holding another product with the bank, and the details are in the bank's fee schedule.
Example
Suppose the minimum balance is HK$10,000, the maintenance fee is HK$100 a month and the average balance is only HK$6,000.
- Minimum balance
- HK$10,000
- Average balance
- HK$6,000
- Maintenance fee
- HK$100 a month
- Over a year
- HK$1,200
A balance below the requirement costs HK$1,200 a year.
